About the project
Cadia Mine is a series of large underground and open-cut gold and copper mines located in the Cadia Valley, about 20km outside of Orange NSW. It’s one of Australia’s largest gold mining operations and has been running since the 90s.
Mine operator Newcrest is a major employer and economic contributor to the local economy, supporting local businesses. As part of the many operations on site, the team at Cadia Mine frequently require hire equipment to complement their existing fleet of mining-specific machines.
With the new expansion project underway, it has increased the need for hired-in equipment to complement the existing plant on-site. Orange Hire’s Central West branch is used by many different contractors involved in the CXP project, being able to provide a fast response time in getting equipment site compliant.
Key challenges
Working in a mining environment naturally encompasses an extensive list of safety and compliance requirements. The Orange Hire team have worked to ensure the necessary equipment meets Mining Design Guideline 15, the NSW gold standard for mobile plant used on mine sites.
This specification covers everything from safety, noise, lighting, signage, fire protection, the cabin environment and of course, maintenance requirements.

Our team is trusted by both Cadia Valley Operations (Newcrest) and many on-site contractors to supply machines spec’d to MDG15/STA-2008 quickly and safely. Our Central West branch also has a mechanic on standby who is site inducted so we are able to respond quickly and efficiently with on-site servicing and emergency breakdowns.
