A crash attenuator is a protective barrier installed in the route of a vehicle in the event that it veers off the road. Crash cushions are usually used during road construction to protect motorists, small and large vehicles, construction equipment and road construction work zones and structures in an event of a collision.
The SLED is a crash cushion to suit concrete barriers like the Deltabloc safety barrier and the Jersey Barrier. It’s MASH Tested to TL-3 when used in a 4 module configuration.
SLED stands for Sentry Longitudinal Energy Dissipater. It is constructed from yellow polyethylene with internal steel cables and is designed to deform and rupture on impact, creating a safer environment during a crash.
When working with heavy machinery, the risk of accidents is higher. A smart cushion or crash cushion protects all roadside hazards – from barriers to bridge piers – and aims to absorb the kinetic energy of impacting vehicles in case of a crash. Our SLED Attenuator meets safety standards to help ensure that in an event of a collision between a vehicle and mobile equipment, the damage caused is significantly lower.
Road Construction Safety
Safety measures should be taken to guide drivers and construction workers to avoid transportation incidents in highway work zones. The proper perimeter must be set and an effective traffic control plan must be implemented and must include the use of visual aid devices for safely conducting traffic to direct the movement of construction vehicles, heavy machinery, and construction employees.
The use of the right equipment and a competent person operating it is also important to ensure that construction workers and civilians alike are safe from potential hazards and to avoid accidents like road construction injuries. Workers must also have the proper training and go through safety training schedules and understand how crucial it is to wear high-visibility clothing and other personal protective equipment as safety precautions.
