About the project
McDonald’s at Karingal, South of Melbourne, has recently installed Armorzone water filled barriers to create a COVID safe outdoor dining area for patrons.
The water filled barriers provide protection against the potential for vehicles to impact customers, as the temporary dining area is located close to a busy road.
Custom made vinyl covers have been added to disguise the barriers and add McDonald’s branding.
Key challenges
Due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements, many cafes and restaurants have been unable to utilise their full seating areas, with many business owners having to turn away customers whilst tables stand empty.
This has prompted smart business owners to find creative solutions to maximising their seating whilst still remaining compliant.
Victorian businesses, in particular, are paying close attention to State guidelines after finally coming out of their extended COVID lockdown. This McDonald’s restaurant in Victoria’s Karingal identified a street frontage area that could be utilised for additional seating. However, due to the close proximity to the road, a safety barrier was deemed to be mandatory by the Council.
Orange Hire’s Solution
Orange Hire Melbourne was able to deliver a series of tough and stable Armorzone water filled barriers to create a safe eating area for McDonald’s customers. The Armorzone barriers are crash rated to 50km/hr when filled with 560 litres of water. In this installation, the water barriers are providing a safety precaution in case an errant vehicle leaves the roadway and mounts the kerb.
This pop-up outdoor dining area ensures not only COVID safe social distancing, but safety from nearby vehicles as well. The Armorzone barriers were approved by both McDonald’s management and Council representatives as an ideal option for the temporary seating area.
The barriers also provide a large blank canvas area which has been branded with the McDonalds & McCafe logos, increasing brand visibility in the nearby area.
